North Dakota State College of Science men’s basketball left Devils Lake with a 1-1 record, after splitting with Turtle Mountain Community College and Sheridan College at the Lake Region State Classic.
The Wildcats made quick work of Turtle Mountain in a 112-39 victory, placing seven players in double figures and forcing 21 turnovers. Sophomore Noble Cooper led the way with 13 points and six rebounds, classmate Rayquan Moore added 13 points, eight assists and five steals and redshirt freshman Diang Gatluak chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
NDSCS (6-2) finished with a season-high 35 assists on 48 made field goals.
The second game of the weekend wouldn’t go as smoothly.
The Cats, who saw their five-game winning streak snapped in the 100-94 defeat against Sheridan, allowed the Generals to shoot a blistering 54 percent from the field and 94 percent from the free throw line on 32 attempts. Sheridan’s dynamic duo of JoVon McClanahan and Brett Thompson combined 39 points and 12 assists.
Cooper again led the Wildcats with 28 points and eight assists. Sophomore Damien Gordon added 16 points and eight rebounds and classmate Duoth Gach added 17 points on 5-for-11 shooting from 3-point range.
Sheridan’s 94 points is the most NDSCS has allowed this season. The Cats are now 2-2 in games on neutral court this season.
No. 9 DCTC (8-0) will host NDSCS on Wednesday (7 p.m.) in the team’s final game before Thanksgiving break.
