North Dakota State College of Science freshman Ambah Kowcun was named to the NJCAA All-American team as announced on Tuesday. Kowcun was a third-team selection.
The NJCAA All-American team is composed of the 50 best players in junior college basketball as selected by the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee, broken down by first-team, second-team, third-team and honorable mention.
Kowcun is the program’s first All-American since 2017. She’s also the first Cat to be selected above an honorable mention level since 2015.
Also an All-Region XIII selection, Kowcun averaged 23.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists. She also shot 42 percent from the field, 41 percent from 3-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line, guiding NDSCS to a 14-9 record.
Kowcun led the nation in 3-point FG (95), finished second in total points (534) and third in per game scoring (23.2). Her 534 points is the fourth-highest NDSCS total in the last decade. She also set the single-game 3-point record with 11 vs. Lake Region State on March 18.
Her explosive scoring led to 11 20-point games and six additional 30-point games, reaching double figures in every game this season.
Just 16 Wildcats prior to Kowcun have received All-American honors. World Exposure Report lists Kowcun as the No. 7 freshman in the nation.
