For the fourth time this season, the North Dakota State College of Science basketball programs came away with a sweep, with the women beating Williston State College 64-52 and the men adding a 99-55 nightcap win in Mon-Dak Conference action.
The Lady Wildcats knocked down a season-high 12 3-point FG, with freshman Ambah Kowcun drilling seven and classmate Brooke Peters adding five.
Kowcun – the Mon-Dak Conference’s second-leading scorer – added to her total with 24 points, six assists and five rebounds. Peters had the best game of her young career at NDSCS, scoring a career-high 15 points and matching a career-best with three assists.
NDSCS led 19-11 after the first quarter and maintained that lead throughout the contest.
Sophomores Zaraya March and Arthel Massaquoi continue to be factors on both ends of the floor. March stuffed the stat sheet with five points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.
March leads the Mon-Dak Conference in rebounding and steals, is second in assists and fifth in scoring.
The Cats have now won back-to-back games for the first time this season and have won three of their last four. On Wednesday they’ll host Bottineau, who took the first meeting between the two teams, 69-64.
NDSCS Men avenge earlier loss to Williston
In what was their most dominant performance of the season, the NDSCS men made good on an 83-72 loss back on Jan. 25 by handing Williston State College its worse loss of the season, 99-55.
The game featured just three lead changes and one tie with the Cats never trailing outside of the game’s open minutes.
Despite matching a season-low output at home offensively, NDSCS put together its most complete defensive performance this season, holding Williston to just 24 percent from the floor and just 18 second-half points.
Sophomore point guards Khari Broadway and JaQuan Sanders set the tone with Broadway having a career night, finishing with 21 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists. Sanders added 12 points. The two Minneapolis natives combined to hit 15 of their 25 attempts and committed just three turnovers.
Classmate Ty Horner finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Freshmen guards Anthony Ignowski (13), Malik Cooper (11) and Rashaun Parker (10) all reached double figures as well.
The win maintained an unblemished 4-0 record at home and extended the home winning streak to 11 games. NDSCS has won four straight games overall this season.
On Wednesday they welcome a Bottineau team that they beat 84-65 on the road.
