NDSCS Basketball remained in the thick of the Mon-Dak Conference title race, as well as earning home Region XIII playoff games by splitting with Dawson Community College over the weekend.
The men were able to snap a 5-game losing skid against Dawson on Sunday, rallying from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat DCC 83-71.
Dawson took Game One on Saturday, a 75-72 thriller that saw NDSCS miss two game-tying attempts in the final 10 seconds. The Cats trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half.
That loss ended a 12-game home winning streak which dated back to last year. Dawson is the only team to win at Ed Werre Arena over the last two years.
The split keeps NDSCS just one game back of Dawson in the loss column. The two teams won’t meet again during the regular season.
The women’s team – who lost at Dawson 68-59 last month – handled the Lady Bucs 67-59 on Saturday before falling to DCC 87-66 on Sunday.
Guards Zaraya March and Ambah Kowcun combined for 51 points in the win, with sophomore post Arthel Massaquoi adding her fourth double-double of the season.
NDSCS now sits in third place in the Mon-Dak, trailing Dawson (7-3) by two games and league leader Miles by five (11-0).
The Wildcats will visit Miles this week for back-to-back games on Wednesday and Thursday. They’ll wrap up the week by hosting Bismarck State on Sunday.
