NDSCS Volleyball ended the 2020 season the way it started... with a sweep.
The Cats capped a perfect 3-0 week with a 3-0 sweep of Mon-Dak foe Dawson Community College on Sophomore Night. The win concluded what has been an incredible regular season for NDSCS with an 18-1 record, Mon-Dak Conference championship and the top seed in the Region XIII Tournament.
For head coach Jane Passa, it was a fitting end for what has been a great group of sophomores.
They finished the regular season a perfect 11-0 record at home and 17-0 in conference play, winning 51 of 52 sets vs. Mon-Dak Conference competition.
“Their never quit attitude is what got them this undefeated home season,” said Passa. “From day one we talked out their goals and they put in the work at achieve them. Through all the things since last winter that have have had to endure they have come out on top and deservedly so. They are good people I truly enjoy being around. I am blessed.”
The Cats will now prepare for the Region XIII Tournament, something NDSCS has won four of the last six years.
Having home court advantage will also be beneficial, where the team has won 19 straight matches and 76 of their last 82 overall. Should they keep winning, the Wildcats would host every match on their way to the national tournament.
“Hosting is everything,” said Passa. “Sophomore Night was a prime example being down by so many in both of the last two sets and coming back to win. That has everything to do with confidence in themselves and their ability to win here no matter what the score is. We have been lucky enough to have great kids who buy into our philosophy.”
NDSCS will host the semifinal round at Ed Werre Arena on Monday, March 29 at 7pm.
