Coming off of a successful fall season, the Wildcat softball team is gearing up for the 2018 spring season.
Coach Mike Oehlke is entering his second season at the helm of the Wildcat softball program and is looking forward to seeing more improvement this spring after they finished the fall with a 9-4-1 record against D2, NAIA, Juco and Club competition. NDSCS will rely on a few key returners and incoming freshmen to help the Wildcats make strides in the spring
Sophomores Halie Johnson, Katie Bjorndahl, and Erin Nissen should play large roles for NDSCS this spring. Johnson, an IF/OF from Moorhead, MN, returns for the Cats after posting a season batting average of .365 and slugged a team high five homeruns, hopes to be a key contributor for the offense again this season. Bjorndahl, P/2B of Hawley, MN, hit .250 last spring and will be relied upon to log some innings in the circle and contribute at the plate. Nissen, Poulsbo, WA, provides a steady presence behind the plate.
Some fresh faces that you can expect to make an impact this season are Brooke Harder (P/1B), Salavao Veu (1B/3B), Maribel Fernandez (SS/2B), Tesa Finley (C), and Shayla Sauer (3B/1B).
With official practice starting February 6th, the Wildcats will have over a full month to get prepared for their opening day games on March 12th against Fort Scott CC in Fort Scott, KS. Game times are scheduled for 2 and 4 PM.
