Softball Cats Go 3-0 at Preseason Mon-Dak Conference Tournament
NDSCS Softball opened the 2020 season with an impressive showing at the Preseason Mon-Dak Conference Tournament in Minot, posting a 3-0 record with a roster that features 14 freshmen, many of whom made major contributions over the weekend.

NDSCS Softball opened the 2020 season with an impressive showing at the Preseason Mon-Dak Conference Tournament in Minot, posting a 3-0 record with a roster that features 14 freshmen, many of whom made major contributions over the weekend.
Those three wins came against defending Mon-Dak Conference and Region XIII champions Dawson, as well as topping reigning Region III champion Dakota College and run-ruling Williston State.
Sophomore SS Maddy Sweep (Casselton, N.D.) showed her leadership and talent with a monster performance, going 4-for-8 with, all four hits being XBH, and a pair of RBI including a solo home run in a 4-2 season-opening win against Dawson.
As a freshman Sweep hit .389 with five home runs and 31 RBI.
Freshman third baseman Regin Suchla (Madison, Wis.) went 2-for-3 in the Dawson win, including a home run and three total RBI. She went 5-for-7 over the weekend.
Classmate pitchers Syd Schott (Gaylord, Minn.) and Demi Uffelman (Hardin, Mont.) found ways to productive in the circle and the box.
Schott picked up a pair of wins over Dawson and Dakota College, pitching 14 total innings, allowing 10 hits and striking out 17. Her two wins came against arguably the league’s top two teams from last spring.
She also went 4-for-9 at the plate over the weekend with a double and RBI.
Uffelman got the win against Williston State in a dominant performance, allowing just two hits in five innings, while also striking out nine. At the dish she went 3-for-3 with three RBI. For the weekend she was a blistering 6-for-9 at the plate and recorded a team-high seven RBI behind four doubles.
Schott and Uffelman combined to go 3-0 with 26 Strikeouts in 19 innings, walking just two batters and posting a ridiculous 0.74 ERA.
The Cats hit .360 as a team with 12 XBH.
NDSCS will look to continue its hot start on Feb. 22 against Lake Region State at Rochester.
