NDSCS Wins Region XIII Tournament; Advances to National Tournament in New York
North Dakota State College of Science went 3-0 at the Region XIII Tournament in Cambridge, Minn., earning the region championship and North Plains District title with a 6-3 win over St. Cloud Tech. That win also secured the program’s second trip to the NJCAA Tournament in the last three years.

The week was all about offense with the Wildcats exploding for 31 runs in three games, including nine home runs with Maxine Ebel and Noelle Forstner each recording two. Ebel finished with six RBI, five of which came in the tournament-opening win against St. Cloud Tech.
Sophomore Sydney Schott received tournament MVP honors, going 2-0 with save in the circle. In 10.2 innings she scattered seven hits, walked just three and tallied 17 strikeouts. Schott allowed just two earned runs.
Classmates Mikayla Johnson and Demi Uffelman, as well as freshman Noelle Forstner made the All-Tournament team.
Johnson went 5-for-10 at the plate with a home run and four RBI. Uffelman pitched five innings with seven strikeouts in the championship, also going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a home run and three RBI. Forstner went 7-for-11 at the plate, with four runs and four RBI.
For his efforts, head coach Michael Oehlke was named the Region XIII Coach of the Year.
NDSCS finished third at the 2018 NJCAA National Tournament. With two appearances since the program’s inception in 2015. The Wildcats will enter this year’s national tournament – held May 27-29 in Syracuse, New York – riding a 13-game winning streak.
