The Wildcat women's basketball team earned a 91-36 win on Thursday over Dakota College-Bottineau in a matchup that rounded out the first run through the Mon-Dak Conference schedule.
Abby Johnson and Mina Porte lead the way with 16 points each, for the Wildcats in a game that saw the home team extend the lead over the last two quarters to 57 points (85-28) before finishing the fourth quarter out. Head Coach Tom Dryburgh said, "I was pleased with the ladies ability to lock in defensively tonight, we did a great job of making scoring opportunities tough for them and forcing DC-B to settle for contested jumpers."
The Wildcat's win over DC-Bottineau moves the Wildcats to 6-0 in the Mon-Dak Conference and 20-2 overall.
The Wilidcats started off the game strong, jumping out to a 17-0 lead near the midpoint of the first quarter. Porte led the way with 10 first half points, scoring on a variety of drives and transition baskets. The Lumberjacks were able to get on the board but not before the Wildcats built a 31-4 lead to finish the first quarter. "We were able to lock into our defensive game plan from the jump and got ourselves out on the break early and didn't really look back", said Dryburgh.
The third quarter started much the same for the home team and the Wildcats were able to build on their halftime score, closing out the third quarter up 65-21. The Wildcats offense started to connect once again from three during the second half with Johnson and Jazmine Glenn connecting on 6 combined 3pt field goals during the final 20 minutes. The Wildcats finished with six players in double figures and outrebounded the Lumberjacks by 22. Dayuna Johnson lead the way from the point with 8 assists and the Wildcats proved why they are so tough to beat with 23 total assists on the night.
The Wildcats, who cracked the NJCAA DI poll this past week at #24, will be off for a week before starting back on the road at United Tribes TC next Thursday night. Game time is set for 5:30pm.
