North Dakota State College of Science went 2-0 this weekend at the NDSCS AmericInn Classic, extending their winning streak to four games with a pair of wins over Bethel JV, 74-38, and Northeastern (Neb.), 61-50.
The Northeast win is the Wildcats biggest of the season to date.
The Hawks entered the game undefeated (6-0), with five of those wins coming by double digits.
It was defense that again powered NDSCS, with the Wildcats holding Northeast to just 24 percent shooting from the field. The Hawks scored just six first quarter points and the Cats led by 14 entering the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Kate Carlson led the way with 14 points and 13 rebounds off the bench. Classmate Nikki Metcalfe added 11 points. Freshmen Zaraya March and Emily-Kate Parker added 11 and 10 points respectively.
NDSCS outrebounded Northeast 55-35.
The Cats opened The Classic with a rout of Bethel’s JV on Friday night.
Parker scored 15 points in that game, while sophomore Justyna Butler added 14 points. Each guard made three of their four attempts from three.
NDSCS forced 25 turnovers and was plus-21 on the glass, giving them a two-day rebounding margin of plus-41.
Tom Dryburgh and company will cap their extended homestand on Tuesday evening when they host Ridgewater College.
