Sophomore Lily Pyle has signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Mayville State University, an NAIA program in Mayville, North Dakota.
Pyle, an All-Mon-Dak Conference selection, finished the season second in kills (291) and third in blocks (75). Her .276 hitting percentage was the high on the team.
“We are so excited to get a player of Lily’s caliber and with her experience” said Mayville State head coach Lindsey Johnson. “We are looking forward to what she will add to our program.”
Mayville State went 21-12 this season, giving the program back-to-back 20-win seasons. Johnson has led the program for more than a decade.
Pyle was recruited but other regional programs, including Concordia-Moorhead. For her, the choice was easy.
“I chose Mayville to continue my major in biology and continue my last two years of volleyball,” said Pyle. “I love the small campus feel.”
Pyle capped her career with 629 career kills and 161 blocks, helping lead NDSCS to a 56-12 record over the last two seasons.
For legendary coach Jane Passa, Pyle is a model of what the program wants to develop in its student-athletes, on and off the court.
“We have been blessed to have Lily in our program,” said Pass. “She has grown into a premier hitter and blocker in the conference and region and has developed into a wonderful leader for our program. I am so excited to see what she will bring to Mayville State University not only as a player but also as a student. I am very proud of her and we will miss her tremendously.”
