Bio

North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) has named Park Masterson as its new head women’s basketball coach for the 2022-2023 season.

“We are fortunate to have a highly qualified candidate within our program. Masterson is highly intelligent and has earned the respect of our students, department, and the College,” NDSCS Athletic Director Stu Engen said. “We are excited to have the consistency within our program.”

Her teams have been extremely successful at all levels with Masterson's help.

During the 2021-2022 season as the assistant at NDSCS Masterson helped the Wildcats to an impressive 30-3 record, a Mon-Dak Conference Championship, a Region XIII Championship, a North Central District Championship, and the program's 6th ever appearance at the NJCAA Division l National Tournament. She developed three All-Conference and All-Region student atheltes in the '21-'22 season; one of which was also named the Region Player of the Year. Masterson also guided Ambah Kowcun ('20-'22) and Ivane Tensaie ('21-'22) to NJCAA All-American honors and commitments with NCAA Division l programs, Wichita State University and Penn State University respectivley. Kowcun became the all-time leading scorer in NDSCS Women's Basketball history, and only the second Women's Basketball player to score 1,000 points in their career at NDSCS

Prior to her time at NDSCS, Masterson assisted for three seasons at Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego, CA. Rancho Bernardo won the 2021 3AA State Regional Championship, reached 20 wins in two of those three seasons and reached the CIF Dl Elite Eight in all three seasons. She also spent two years with AAU power San Diego Sol.

Masterson is a graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She was a four-year starter and team captain her senior year, finishing 15th in program history in career rebounds.

Also accomplished in the field of Science, Masterson worked at the University of California, San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography with the Lyons Lab on the discovery of a new model organism – Berghia stephanieae – as well as advanced findings within the marine invertebrate family
