Second half shutout leads to the win.
NDSCS football traveled to Ely, MN to take on the Minnesota North College-Vermillion Ironhawks on Saturday. It was a defensive first quarter as the teams went into the second quarter tied 0-0. The second quarter saw a total of 35 points scored between the two teams. Tyvon Cade got the scoring started right away in the second quarter with a 9 yard touchdown run. After an Ironhawks touchdown, the Wildcats were able to score again when Jacob Mattick hit Trevion Carothers for a 33 yard touchdown. The Ironhawks scored again and made a huge play to end the first half by blocking the NDSCS FG attempt and returning it 60 yards to put the Ironhawks up 21-14 at halftime.
The second half was all NDSCS as they outscored the Ironhawks 29-0. Mattick added to his day with another touchdown pass to Carothers (30 yards), and a touchdown pass to Ishmael Emmanuel-Holloway (61 yards). Mattick and Michael Douglas Jr added rushing touchdowns as well in the second half.
NDSCS forced two turnovers with interceptions by both Malique Jackson and Jeremiah Wainwright. NDSCS didn't have any turnovers throughout the game.
Jacob Mattick (15-21/203yds/3TD) had a solid day at quarterback. The rushing attack was led by Tyvon Cade (13/69yds/1TD) while the receving was led by Trevion Carothers (4/88yds/2TD) and Ishmael Emmanuel-Holloway (4/82yds/1TD).
NDSCS is back home this weekend for Homecoming as they'll take on Central Lakes College-Brainerd. The game kicks off at 1:30 PM at Frank Vertin Field in Wahpeton, ND.
