(#5) Wildcats take down the Raiders on Homecoming
Homecoming and Sophomore day for the Wildcats
The NDSCS Wildcats took on the Central Lakes College Raiders in the annual Homecoming game at Frank Vertin Field at Earl "Skip" Bute Stadium. On a windy saturday, the Wildcats came out on top by a score of 40-0 to put them at 5-2 on the season with one week left before the playoffs hit.
The game started off with the Wildcats getting the ball and punching it down the field highlighted by a big run by Jacob Mattick down near the Raiders' goal line. The possesion was capped off by a touchdown run by Sam Burkel from 5 yards out. The second quarter saw two scores from the Wildcats both coming off runs. Mattick punched one in from one yard out, and Michael Douglas Jr had a 20 yard run up the right side for a score. The Wildcats defense was impressive throughout the first half forcing multiple punts and turnovers from the Raiders.
The second half started with a huge play from the NDSCS defense where they got some heavy pressure on the CLC quarterback forcing an errant pass that was picked off by Mark Cabrera who strolled into the endzone for a pick six. Trevon Rodriguez had a one yard score in the third quarter as well building the Wildcats lead. In the fourth quarter, Mattick took a shot down the right side where Ishmael Emmanuel-Holloway made a spectacular grab, into the wind, and ran it all the way for a 79 yard score to put the 'Cats up 40-0.
The Wildcats defense was flying around all game and were able to force three interceptions on the day. Omari Walton-Hunter, Aaron Meier, and Mark Cabrera each recorded an interception on the day. The Raiders had a very tough time moving the ball on the stingy Wildcats defense who pitched their first shutout on the season.
NDSCS football travels to Rochester next week to take on RCTC in their final game of the regular season. The game will kickoff at 1:30PM.
