The NDSCS Wildcat men's basketball team opened their season in New Town, ND.
The Wildcats won games on Thursday and Saturday to advance to the championship of the Mon-Dak Preseason Tournament before falling in the championship game on Sunday afternoon.
In game one, NDSCS defeated Miles CC 74-66. Some crucial plays down the stretch helped seal the game for the Cats as Duoth Gach found Jordan Polynice in the corner for three with 1:30 remaining to give the Cats a 70-66 lead. Marquis Holloman and Oman Oman both converted one and ones with under a minute left to keep the Wildcats in front for good. Oman led the way for NDSCS with 18 points and John Morton contributed 16 points in his first game for the Wildcats. Morton and Ismail Soumare each finished with six rebounds.
On day two, NDSCS faced off with United Tribes TC in another down to the wire contest riding a wave of hot shooting to defeat the Thunderbirds 84-76. Duoth Gach led the Cats with 22 points, connecting on five treys and shooting 7-12 from from the field. Oman Oman chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds to go along with five assists and Jordan Polynice finished with 10 points and corraled 8 boards.
In the championship game the Wildcats struggled to find a rhythm on either end of the floor and were outmatched by Williston State 55-83. Gare Ewefada had a solid game for NDSCS, scoring 11 points on 5-9 shooting while adding six rebounds and three assists. Noble Cooper also scored in double digits with 10 points.
NDSCS starts the season off 2-1 and will look to get back on track Tuesday, November 13 as they take on Minnesota State - Fergus Falls in their home opener. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 pm, following the conclusion of the women's game.
