NDSCS Softball Claims 4th Consecutive District Championship Title
Wahpeton, ND (Game 1 Box Score) - This past Tuesday the NDSCS Wildcats hosted the College of DuPage Chaparrals in a best of three district playoff series. The Wildcats took an early lead in the first inning but the Chaparrals stayed close the entire game.
NDSCS pitching duo Emma Johnson (West Fargo, ND) and Grace Folkema (Rush City, MN) held DuPage to four runs off four hits.
Wildcat scoring came from Caitlyn Dannenfelzer (Mandan, ND), Emma Johnson, Kendyl Moss (Cincinnati, OH), TK Landes (Denver, CO), Lara “Yaya” Dolezal (North Bend, NE), & Lily Reed (Wilmar, MN).
Wahpeton, ND (Game 2 Box Score) - Immediately following their 7-4 win the ‘Cats and the Chaparrals prepared for game two of the series. A win here would punch the Wildcat’s ticket to the NJCAA DIII Softball World Series for the fourth year in a row.
After such a close game one Wildcat fans were cautious but hopeful that NDSCS could secure the win in two rather than pushing it to game three the next day. The trepidation didn’t last long because the Wildcat’s bats were on fire in game two! NDSCS Scored all 12 of their runs in the first three innings, with Avery Martin (League City, TX) sending home four runners and scoring three runs herself. Martin also sailed a dinger out of the park to break the school home run record (19) as well as crack the top five of the NJCAA DIII Top-5 Single Season Record holders (2001- Present). Grace Folkema is also climbing the ranks in the record books with 378 recorded single season strikeouts so far. This puts her at number three in the NJCAA DIII Top-5 Single Season Record Holders and 16 strikeouts away from tying the all-time leader.
With a 12-0 score at the bottom of the 5th, your NDSCS Wildcats clinched their spot in the 2024 NJCAA DIII Softball World Series on an 8-run rule!
The #1 Nationally Ranked NDSCS Wildcat Softball team has punched their ticket to the NJCAA DIII Softball National Tournament World Series for the fourth year in a row!
The World Series is held May 22-25 at the Frost Stadium and Warner Park in Chattanooga, TN. Selection show to be announced.
