#1 Wildcats to Host District Championship Tuesday
Will Take on Joliet Junior College
The national #1 ranked NDSCS Wildcats Softball team will play host to Joliet Junior College on Tuesday with game times starting at 3 PM and 5 PM at the Gayle Miller Softball Complex on the campus of NDSCS.
There will be a free will donation with hamburgers and hotdogs for fans.
NDSCS comes into the game with 47-13-1 record and have currently won 28 of their last 29 games. Joliet comes in with a 28-24 record and have won their last six games in a row.
The Wildcats are led by a strong pitching staff with Sophomores Emma Johnson and Grace Folkema along with Freshmen Ella Stewart and Heeley Taylor. The Wildcats pitching staff has a combined ERA of 2.07 with a 1.09 WHIP. Opponents are hitting only .213 against the Wildcat pitchers. Johnson was named the Mon-Dak Pitcher of the Year.
The Wildcats are led by multiple batters including Johnson. Some of the players to watch include Rayelle Cooley who is batting .447 on the year with 56 runs scored and 55 RBIs (sixth best in the nation) on the year, Meridith Frey who leads the nation in stolen bases with 57 to go along with 63 runs scored which is third best in the nation, Blythe Proulx who is third in the nation in home runs with 12 to go along with 55 RBIs (sixth best in the nation), Caitlyn Dannenfelzer who is batting .395 with 68 runs scored which is third best in the nation and a fielding percentage of .989 which is one of the best in the nation, Makalya LaChance who is batting .380 and has a .995 fielding percentage, Kendyl Moss has 19 doubles on the year to go along with 46 RBIs, Ava Howard who has a .485 OB% with four triples, Katie Edmonds is tied for third on the team with 21 stolen bases, and Jessi Mathews is batting .325 and has the third most put outs for the 'Cats with 159.
This will be a best of three series with the potential of a game three being played on Wednesday if necessary.
