Whether Iowa Western played a man or a zone defense, the Lady Wildcats could get whatever shot they wanted. More often than not, that shot came from Dayuna Johnson, who finished with a game-high 29 points. Behind Johnson, the Wildcats topped the No. 18 Reivers, 74-69, to move to 3-1 in the season.
Johnson, a sophomore from Columbus, OH, finished her night shooting 9-for-16 from the floor for 29 points in 34 minutes of action. Johnson also notched a 6-for-9 mark from beyond the 3-pt line and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Two Wildcat freshman made key contributions as well. Lauren Johnson, Crystal, MN, finished with 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the floor and grabbed five rebounds. Tera-Nay Lee, Minneapolis, MN, recorded four points in addition to a team-high nine rebounds.
As a team, the Wildcats shot 44.2 percent from the floor and 45.0 percent from the 3-pt line, with 27 of their 74 points coming from behind the arc. Defensively, NDSCS out rebounded the Reivers 40 to 29 and only allowed five second chance points compared to the Wildcats 15.
The Lady Wildcats are back in actions this weekend, Nov. 18-19 at the Lake Region State Classic.
