Wildcats Secure Homecourt With Wins Over UTTC and BSC
Wildcats use 24-15 Fourth Quarter to Defeat BSC
The NDSCS Women's Basketball team came into the weekend knowing they had a shot at securing the #1 overall seed and homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs if they were to sweep both United Tribes and Bismarck State.
The Wildcats took on UTTC on Sunday afternoon where they came away with a big 72-62 win. The Wildcats used a big 21-14 fourth quarter to secure the win. The Wildcats were led by Maggie Westling who had 20 points and 12 rebounds. Demi Van Gils added 18 points and five assists for the 'Cats. Mckena Koolmo added 11 points and nine rebounds as well. This win avenged a 51-66 loss to UTTC back in January. The Thunderbirds were led by Natalie DeCoteau who had 35 points on the night.
The Wildcats went in Monday's game knowing they had to win to secure the top seed in the upcoming Mon-Dak Conference Championships. The 'Cats took on the top team in Bismarck State who defeated the 'Cats 88-93 earlier this year. The Mystics held a 10 point lead going into the half before a 19-14 third quarter and a 24-15 fourth quarter put the Wildcats over the top to secure the win and homecourt. The Wildcats were led by Westling who had 21 points and 17 rebounds. Peyton Gette had six assists on the night. Koolmo added 16 while Van Gils added 15 for the Wildcats. Ava Boyes hit double figures with 10 points on the night while Ezrah Baker had four points, five rebounds, and two assists.
The Wildcats finish the regular season with a 22-7 record (11-3 Mon-Dak).
The Wildcats will play host to the winner of Lake Region and Miles CC (game played on Sunday March 2) on Wednesday, March 5 at 6PM at the Blikre Activities Center.
