North Dakota State College of Science head volleyball coach Jane Passa has announced the signing of three athletes for the 2020 season.
Setter Kourtney Carney, outside hitter Ashton Sagaser and setter Megan Klaphake will join the program next fall.
Carney is a 2018 graduate of Moorhead (Minn.) and will have one year of eligibility for the Wildcats. She has the all-time assists and sets played record at Moorhead and finished second all-time in digs. She helped lead the program to a fourth and sixth place finish in the state tournament. She’s a transfer from Concordia-Moorhead.
Sagaser, a Bismarck, N.D. product, is a 5-foot-11 athlete that excels at the net. She finished the regular season as the WDA Leader in total kills, kills per set, and kills per match and was a captain for the Sabers. Ashton not only achieves on the volleyball court but also in the classroom as she maintains a 4.0 and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is also involved with mission work in the Dominican.
Klaphake, a Sauk Centre, Minn. native, was the 2019 West Central Conference Setter of the Year. She’s also a two-time All-West Central Conference selection and was named to the Section 6 AA All-Section team. She was chosen as a captain and maintains a 3.9 GPA.
“We are eager to have this trio join our family and excited about what they’ll add,” said Passa. “Kort has an incredible volleyball IQ and the court experience you want from a player. Ashton is a huge offensive threat and will be an impact player at the net. Megan is a spark plug with great quickness and pure love of the game.”
They’ll join one of the winningest programs in America under Passa, which includes a trip to the national tournament in 2018 and nearly 600 wins. The Wildcats are 98-11 at home since 2012.
