(#24) NDSCS defeats MCC
Huge nights from Kohl, Stegora, and Boomsma lead the Wildcats.
The Wildcats defeated Miles CC to put them at 16-2 on the year and 7-1 in the Mon-Dak.
The first set started off back and forth where neither team could put together a string of runs seeing the game tied up multiple times in the early on. Miles City went on the first run putting them up 8-12 before NDSCS called a timeout. The game remained close until MCC was able to build a 14-19 lead. Two huge digs by Samantha Kohl and then Abby Johnson sparked NDSCS out of the timeout. A huge block by the duo of Kohl and Katelyn Stalboerger got the 'Cats back within 2, but MCC had some huge kills down the stretch taking the first set 25-20.
The second set started off much like the first with a back and forth start. NDSCS went on the first run forcing an MCC timeout when the Wildcats went on a quick 4-0 run to go up 10-6 capped by a kill from Mya Boomsma. The Wildcats stayed in control by getting a few aces as well as some solid defense highlighted by a big block from Kohl and Kaylee Stegora. The Wildcats were clicking throughout the late stage of the set and came away with a 25-17 after a massive kill by Mya Boomsma.
The 'Cats got the start they wanted in the third set getting off to an 8-2 lead highlighted by a massive kill by Stegora. The Wildcats continued to build their lead forcing a timeout by the Pioneers at the 18-8 mark. The Pioneers didn't go away quietly going on a late 6-0 run to pull them within 6. Back-to-back-to-back kills from Kohl and Stegora finished off the third set with the Wildcats winning it 25-17.
The Pioneers jumped out to a good start in the fourth set building a 4-7 lead early which was quickly erased from big kills from Marley Wheeler and Mya Boomsma. The run continued seeing the Wildcats put together a 7-0 run. The Pioneers went on their own run to tie it back up at 13. Back and forth the two teams went before the 'Cats were able to build up a 21-18 lead. The Pioneers would tie it once again at 21 before getting an ace to put them up 21-22. The game would continue when the Pioneers were able to score on the Wildcats' match point. NDSCS found a way to put two in a row and put away the Pioneers 26-24 and a 3-1 match victory.
