NDSCS Volleyball Players Receive Postseason Awards
Samantha Kohl named Mon-Dak and Region XIII MVP
The NJCAA Region XII All-Region volleyball team was recently announced.
NDSCS was represented by four student-athletes, Samantha Kohl, Payton Foster, Katelyn Stalboerger, and Kaylee Stegora. Lily Mathern represented the Wildcats on the All Sportsmanship Team as well.
Samantha Kohl (Sophomore Milwaukee, WI) was named the MVP of the region as well as Mon-Dak Conference MVP. Kohl will go down as one of the greatest to ever put on a Wildcats uniform as she finished her career second overall in career kills. In her two seasons, Kohl had 951 kills averaging 3.88 kills per set. Coach Passa on Samantha Kohl, "Sam Kohl, was a kind, hardworking, consistent all-around player that was able to lead us in all areas of play. She was a quiet leader that set the example by doing and she also set the bar for the entire team to follow. Sam will be in the record books for a long time. She is a player that only comes along a few times in a coach's career, and we were blessed to have her at NDSCS. We wish Sam great success in her career as a Dental Hygienist."
Payton Foster (Sophomore Bismarck, ND) was named All-Region as well as First Team All Conference this year. Foster had 556 assists this year for 7.04 assists per game. Foster also got into the record books as second all time in service aces with 112. Coach Passa on Payton Foster, "Payton was the leader of our offense and helped make our hitters be successful on the court. She also set a goal to find a place in the record books for service aces and achieved that in our last few weeks of the season. She has goals to go on and play at the next level and has the tools to do that and have great success."
Katelyn Stalboerger (Sophomore Escanaba, MI) was named All-Region as well as Second Team All Conference this year. Stalboerger had 215 kills on the season averaging 2.03 kills per set. Stalboerger was also a great defensive player for the Wildcats in her career. Coach Passa on Katelyn Stalboerger, "Katelyn was a strong middle hitter throughout her career and that had a huge impact offensively for us, but her defense at the net is really what set her apart from others in the Conference and Region. We are excited to see where her future takes her."
Kaylee Stegora (Sophomore Monticello, MN) was named All-Region this year. Stegora had 182 kills this year with 1.98 kills per set. Stegora was a huge part of the Wildcats offense and defense as well as her leadership on the court. Coach Passa on Kaylee Stegora, "Kaylee worked very hard to contribute for us offensively and defensively and she will be missed on the court, but where we will really miss her is her leadership and ability to get things done off the court. Kaylee is also being heavily recruited at the middle position and will find success in wherever she chooses to go."
Lily Mathern (Sophomore Moorhead, MN) was named to the Mon-Dak All Sportsmanship Team for being a great teammate, a great leader, and a great representative for NDSCS Wildcats Volleyball.
Head Coach Jane Passa was selected as Mon-Dak Co-Coach of the Year which is her 13th time receving this award.
The Wildcats finished the 2024 season going 26-4 including a perfect 11-0 record at the Blikre Activites Center.
